Roofing Stockport- Introduction to Turf roofing

In this article I am going to describe about turf roofing. The term “Turf roof” many times utilized with “green roof”. Both terms means similar almost in roofing field.  The term turf roof or green roof is used to describe a roof covered with growing plants, whether turf, hardy evergreen plants like sedum or a full blown Roof garden with lots of tress and flowering shrubs.
There are basically two types of such roofing; intensive and extensive. Extensive green roofing utilizes a thin layer of soil and they suit sloping roof structure. They found their application in such kind of roof where roof are prepared for visual effect rather than for walking on it. Intensive green roofs are prepared on deep layer of soil and on this soil flat roof gardens are planted to transform it in a green roof. Turf suits intensive green roofs and hardy plants suits visual appeal for extensive green roofs.
Construction-
 
A Turf roof is constructed using several layers on a comparatively strong roof structure. It is quite important to assess the strength of roofing structure according to prescribed standards so that security can be assured in further construction. The layers of turf roofing comprises of the following;
A water proof, root-resistant liner i.e. Pond liner or 300 micron damp proof membrane and edging of wooden and aluminum batten.
Moisture retaining blanket or carpet can also be utilized.
Grit, stone or aggregate layer which can be used to adds drainage.
